Afikpo Community Agog As 2025 New Yam, Lecture Holds August 24, 25

AFIKPO (Ehugbo) community in Afikpo North local government area of Ebonyi state is agog with activities as 2025 annual New yam festival (Ikeji) commences.
In the tradition of Ehugbo community made up of Enohia, Itim, Ohaisu, Ugwuegu, Nkpogoro communities, celebrate yam festival annually to mark the beginning of new cultural year.
The _Ikeji_ is also an opportunity to celebrate king of crop (yam) showcase Ehugbo rich-cukture, which has existed for over decades.
The new yam festival is a season of gratitude and reverence—a time when the Igbo people give thanks to God for guiding them from periods of food scarcity to seasons of abundant harvest, free from hunger-related deaths.
In line with this tradition, the Rt. Hon. Iduma Igariwey Enwo established the Okpudo Ikeji Annual Lecture as a distinguished intellectual platform for the celebration and promotion of Igbo culture, with special focus on the rich heritage of the Afikpo and Edda Federal Constituency.

This year, Okpudo once again invites the good people of Afikpo and Edda LGAs to join him in celebrating the new yam festival and to participate in this year’s lecture titled:
“The Ikeji Festival: Land Inheritance and Traditional Legal System among the Afikpo and Edda.”
The lecture will be delivered by Professor Eseni Azu Udu, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ikwo.
Prof. Eseni will offer deep reflections on the legal traditions and cultural practices surrounding land inheritance among the Afikpo and Edda people. His insights will broaden our understanding of the Ikeji festival and its enduring significance in Igbo society.
