Ebonyi Community Celebrates Wrestling Festival In Style

As part of their customs and traditions,Ekka Community in Ezza South LGA of Ebonyi State has celebrated Wrestling Competition as the wrestlers were awarded with prizes, ranging from Tricycle, Motorcycle, standing fan, among others.

The wrestling festival which took place at Ekka community was attended by stakeholders, elderly women and women, including young boys and girls who came to celebrate the festival.

According to one of the stakeholders from the community, Earnest Amobi stated that Ngba Eka festival serves as their traditional new year.He noted that Ngba-Ekka festival do come after the

Eke-Nfu'(Our new year festival).

“The Eke day being today,is the wrestling competition.It has lasted for ages, people from different parts of Ebonyi State use to come for the wrestling competition.

“The Eke-Ngwu celebration(New yam festival) is unique because all our sons and daughters do come for the celebration.It marks the beginning of new yam harvest in Eka land.

He further stated that wrestling competition is open for everyone to come and join, and it is being sponsored by the community and some voluntary donations from stakeholders .

“It our culture and our heritage and has lasted for ages.

On his part,the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation,Mr.Ikeuwa Omebe and the Development Centre Coordinator of Imoha ,Barr Chika Igboke all expressed joy and satisfaction over the wrestling festival, saying that it is one of their traditions that unite their sons and daughters.

They explained that it is an annual event that is being organized by the community in support of the stakeholders, where young boys and girls engage in wrestling competition and shall be rewarded with prizes.

The overall best,Nwangwu Emeka was giving tricycle while others received generated, standing fan, among others.
