VC Appoints Prof. Amalu, Chairman UNICAL Strategic Plan Committee
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Offiong Efanga Offiong, has approved the appointment of Professor Uche Amalu of the Department of Soil Science, Faculty of Agriculture, as Chairman of the University of Calabar Strategic Plan Committee (2026–2030).
The appointment, which takes effect from 2nd February, 2026, was conveyed in an official letter signed by the Vice-Chancellor.
According to the letter, the appointment is based on Professor Amalu’s wealth of experience and demonstrated commitment to excellence in service delivery.
The Strategic Plan Committee is mandated to develop a comprehensive document that will guide the University’s direction during the 2026–2030 period.
Its terms of reference include; aligning the University’s goals with the vision and mission of its founding fathers, ensuring effective allocation of resources, promoting student success and staff development, and providing evidence-based data to support contemporary and real-world achievements.
The letter further states that the committee is also expected to develop a spider impact model to track institutional performance, promote inclusivity of all stakeholders, ensure accountability, and maintain focus on the University’s core objectives.
Members of the Committee include:
Prof. Nse U. Essien who will serve as the committee's Alternate Chairman, and Prof. Eka Braide as the committee's Technical Adviser.
Other members include, Prof. (Mrs.) Amenawo I. Offiong , Prof. Idaka Idaka, Prof. Ima-Abasi Bassey, Prof. Peter Okafor, Prof. Emmanuel I. Akpan, Prof. Odey A. Osha, Dr. Rugene A. Bassey, Mr. Vincent Omini, Mr. Francis Bassey while Prof. James Ejue will serve as the committee's Secretary
By the appointment, all members of the committee have been urged to contribute meaningfully to the success of the assignment, which is considered critical to the future growth, development, and global competitiveness of the University of Calabar.
The Vice-Chancellor congratulated Professor Amalu and members of the committee and expressed confidence in their ability to deliver a robust and forward-looking strategic plan for the institution.
