UPDATE ON FCT ELECTIONS: INEC Chairman Unveils Detail Polling Unit Report
In a decisive move aimed at strengthening public trust in Nigeria’s electoral system, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has presented a comprehensive breakdown of election reports from every polling unit across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. The development marks a significant step in ensuring transparency and accountability in the conduct of recent elections.
According to a report by the Daily Post Nigeria, on February 21, 2026, Prof. Yakubu disclosed that INEC meticulously collated results from all polling units within the six Area Councils of Abuja — Abaji, Abuja Municipal, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, and Kwali.
He emphasized that electoral officers transmitted results directly from polling units using the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), ensuring accuracy and real-time documentation.
The INEC chairman stated that voter turnout figures, the number of accredited voters, valid votes, rejected ballots, and final tallies for each political party were properly recorded and verified before collation at ward and council levels.
He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to credible elections, noting that the process followed constitutional guidelines and INEC’s operational framework.
Yakubu further assured residents of the FCT that all reported incidents, including minor logistical challenges experienced in a few polling units, were addressed promptly without compromising the integrity of the results.
He urged political stakeholders and voters to rely on officially released data while discouraging misinformation capable of undermining democratic stability.
The detailed polling unit reports, he concluded, reflect INEC’s resolve to conduct elections that truly represent the will of the people.
