Tobi Amusan Wins Silver Medal in Tokyo Despite Kits Controversy

Tobi Amusan, Nigeria's 100m hurdles world record holder, has blasted the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) over what she described as substandard kits provided for the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo.
Amusan expressed frustration on Snapchat, saying Nigerian athletes received "small nylon bags" with just two questionable outfits and no footwear, despite officials collecting shoe sizes.
She compared this unfavorably to other countries, which allegedly provided suitcases full of gear.
Responding to the allegation, AFN President Tonobok Okowa dismissed Amusan's claims, stating that athletes received standard kits in batches, including spike shoes and covers. He added that World Athletics provided travel bags, which were the only omission from the kits.
Okowa also mentioned that Amusan flew business class to Tokyo, which she had requested, while other athletes traveled economy class. This has sparked debate, with some questioning why Amusan would demand special treatment if she's experiencing neglect.
Despite the controversy, Amusan has performed well in Tokyo, winning the first medal for Nigeria with a silver medal in 100 meters hurdles marking her first podium finish since her remarkable world title victory in 2022.
