Sweden-based Nigerian, Oko Omaka Okoro, has been ordained as Bishop of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for the Södertälje Ward in Sweden.

The ordination was conferred by the global President and Prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, marking a significant milestone in Okoro’s spiritual journey and leadership within the church.

Speaking with The Beagle News in a telephone interview, Bishop Okoro described the appointment as a divine calling rather than a personal aspiration. “I am honoured to inform you that I have been called and ordained as Bishop for the Södertälje Ward in Sweden by the President and Prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,” he said. “I will be presiding over the ward for the next five years. It’s not a position I ever aspired to, but I believe in the Lord’s words to Jeremiah: ‘Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.’ We humbly ask for your prayers as we begin this journey.”

Originally from Amaizu in Afikpo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Nigeria, Bishop Okoro has lived in Sweden for over two decades. He is married and blessed with children.

Reacting to the ordination, Dr. Judex Okoro, who spoke on behalf of the family, expressed gratitude to the Church for recognizing Okoro’s devotion and service. “My brother has been a committed and selfless member of the Church. His ordination is a well-deserved recognition of his dedication to the Lord’s vineyard,” he said.

Dr. Okoro, a journalist and lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Calabar, offered prayers for his brother’s new spiritual assignment. “We ask that the Almighty God who has entrusted him with this responsibility also grant him the wisdom, strength, and courage to lead the members aright. May the will of God be done in his life as he pilots the affairs of the Church over the next five years.”

Bishop Okoro’s ordination is viewed by many as a testament to his unwavering faith, service, and spiritual maturity, and has brought pride to both his local church community and his home country, Nigeria.
