In a heartwarming display of unity and respect beyond the pitch, players of Nigeria’s Super Falcons paid a compassionate visit to South Africa’s Gabriela Salgado following a fiercely contested semi-final clash at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The visit took place at the Mohamed VI Hospital in Casablanca, where Salgado is receiving treatment for a mid-shaft fracture to her left leg ,an injury she sustained during the high-intensity match against Nigeria.
The incident has prematurely ended her season.
Led by team captain Rasheedat Ajibade, the Falcons delegation included goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, defender Ashleigh Plumptre, forward Ifeoma Onumonu, and fan-favorite Michelle Alozie.
Together, they presented Salgado with a Super Falcons jersey signed by the team, offering words of encouragement and solidarity.
The gesture has been widely hailed as a powerful act of sportsmanship, reflecting the deep respect shared among African teams despite intense rivalries.
"Football is more than just competition, t’s about humanity, unity, and mutual respect," said Ajibade.
"We wish Gabriela a speedy recovery and hope to see her back on the pitch soon."
This show of empathy from Nigeria’s Super Falcons has struck a chord with fans and observers alike, reinforcing the unifying power of sports and the enduring bonds formed through the beautiful game.
