The Brotherhood of the Cross and Star has cautioned Nigerian leaders against using public office as a tool for intimidation, greed, or selfish enrichment, urging those in authority to govern with justice, responsibility, and compassion.

The organisation’s spokesman, Dr Amah Williams, gave the warning on Wednesday in Calabar during a press briefing to announce activities marking the 25th anniversary of the physical coronation of Olumba Olumba Obu.

Williams said the message from the Holy Father emphasises that leadership must prioritise the welfare of citizens, stressing that public office should serve as a platform for service rather than oppression. He noted that leaders at all levels must recognise that authority is a trust and remain accountable to the “King of kings and Lord of lords.”

He further urged Nigerian leaders not to promote disunity or violence, but to encourage peaceful coexistence among the country’s diverse ethnic groups. According to him, Nigeria is divinely favoured and destined to become a model for inclusive leadership, good governance, and social cohesion.

The spokesman also warned against oppression and deceit in governance, stating that the time has come to entrench servant leadership, selflessness, and compassion in public administration. He added that the poor must not be neglected, and the weak must not be oppressed by those in positions of authority.

On the 2027 general elections, Williams called on Nigerians and political actors to shun violence, killings, and intimidation, maintaining that there is no need for political desperation as divine purpose will ultimately determine leadership outcomes.

He added that the Holy Father has assured Nigerians of peace and prosperity, noting that the nation is richly endowed with resources and great potential. According to him, the divine plan is for Nigeria to emerge as a model of responsible leadership, unity, and improved quality of life.

Williams also outlined activities lined up for the silver jubilee celebration of the physical coronation of Olumba Olumba Obu. These include spiritual gatherings, humanitarian programmes, medical outreach, and a grand finale in Calabar.
