The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says recalcitrant members of the party in Cross River will be sanctioned to pace way for peace in the state chapter of the party.
The South-South zonal committee chairman of the party, Chief Emmanuel Ogidi made the disclosure at a stakeholders meeting of the party in Calabar on Thursday.
He said the party was in the state mediate into the current crisis rocking the state chapter of the PDP.
He also informed the stakeholders that the earlier scheduled state Congress was postponed till further notice to make way to reconcile all aggrieved members.
"The party does have rules guiding it, and members are met to subscribe to such rules, and anyone who feels too big to do so will be dacntioned according to the constitution.
"We are here to make peace building reconciling members, but it is obvious that some are not ready for such.
"We took the decision to postpone the congress because there are issues on ground. You have listened to what everyone has said, and it tells you that all is not well in the Cross River chapter of the PDP.
"As for the South-South zonal committee members, we will work to settle the issues, and until that is achieved, no Congress will hold," he explained.
Ogidi explained that the National Working Committee (NWC) has the right to postpone the congrss against contrary view being held in some quarters that only the National Executive Committee (NEC) has the right to do so.
"We are following our rules. The NWC is the only organ authorised to run the day-to-day affairs of the parrlty.
"The highest body of the party is the convention. The next body is the NEC. The NWC implements the decision of these bodies, and the NWC too can take decisions on behalf of these bodies
and then pass it through at the NEC of the convention.
Recall that the PDP NWC had on Wednesday announced the postponement of the state Congress in Cross River through a statement by the national publicity secretary.
The party also announced the dissolution of the SWC, citing the expiration of ternure as the reading for the dissolution.
However, the Venatius Ikem led SWC insisted that the NWC does not have the power to postpone the Congress.
Ikem also explained that the proposed Congress scheduled for Saturday will take place.
