THE Nigerian Labour Congress has ordered the Minister of Power and Steel, Adebayo Adelabu, to resign owing to the worsening state of the nation's power sector.
In a statement released yesterday by the president of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero, the union expressed dismay and disatisfaction over the frequent collapse of the national grid and regretted the incapacity and failure by the Ministry of Power.
According to the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, "If the Ministry of Power is manned by competent officials, the now embarassing constant grid collapse would have been averted instead of the worrying statement by the Minister that this will continue as if this has always been the norm. We believe that this is a clear admission of incapacity and failure by the Ministry and we wonder why they would not do the honourable thing by resigning."
Ajaero noted that the frequent national collapse in recent times was embarassing and amount to gross incompetence and criticised the National Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, for failing to fulfil its regulatory duties.
