NDLEA Destroys 30 Hectares of Cannabis Plantation in Cross River

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has destroyed a 30-hectare cannabis plantation in Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State.
According to NDLEA's state commander, Rachel Umebuali while speaking to newsmen in Calabar, the plantation yielded 163.9kg of cannabis sativa seeds, and some suspects were arrested in connection with the farm.
“Between January and June, the NDLEA command in Cross River seized a total of 6,716.8kg of illicit drugs, including: Cannabis Sativa 2,935kg, Methamphetamine 129.6kg, Psychotropic Substances 82.7kg, Cannabis Mixture 33.3 liters, Cocaine 47.7kg, Heroine 32.3kg, Opioids and Barbiturates 69.7kg and Ecstasy 5 grams”
“During the same period, the command arrested 191 persons and secured convictions for 15 individuals” she disclosed.
Umebuali expressed concern that most of the drug peddlers are not indigenes of the state, but rather outsiders who bribe locals to protect their illicit activities.
She lamented that the locals refuse to provide information about these activities, hindering the agency's efforts.
