Labour Party Faction Gives Peter Obi 48 Hours to Resign Over Coalition

The Julius Abure led faction of Labour Party, has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to resign from the party.

This decision follows Obi's recent involvement with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a newly formed opposition coalition aimed at challenging President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

Obiora Ifoh, National Publicity Secretary of the faction, described the coalition members as "power mongers" and "frustrated politicians" only interested in self-serving. Ifoh stated that the Labour Party would not tolerate dual agendas or deceptive personas within its ranks.

He said, the party is giving Obi 48 hours to formally resign his membership, citing the party's opposition to the coalition while emphasizing that the Labour Party remains committed to Nigeria's renewal and urged members to stay loyal and maintain the party's structure ahead of future elections.

Obi had earlier in a recent statement explained that the decision to join the ADC was not taken lightly, but rather after deep reflection on Nigeria's current challenges and the need for transformative leadership.

He emphasized the importance of building bridges, not walls, to dismantle structures that keep Nigerians in poverty and insecurity.

He however proposed serving a single term in office, prioritizing the nation's future, and putting the welfare of Nigerians first.
