Liverpool and Portugal forward Diogo Jota, aged 28, has died in a devastating car accident in Zamora, Spain.
The accident, which occurred early Thursday morning on the A-52 near Palacios de Sanabria, also claimed the life of his brother, André Jota.
According to reports, their vehicle veered off the road and crashed, bursting into flames. Emergency responders arrived quickly but found both brothers had died at the scene.
This tragedy comes just days after Jota’s wedding to his long-time partner, Rute Cardoso, on June 22, 2025. The couple recently shared joyful images from their wedding celebration, where they were joined by their three children.
Diogo Jota began his professional football journey with Paços de Ferreira, enjoyed a loan spell at Porto, and gained recognition with Wolverhampton Wanderers before joining Liverpool in 2020 for a reported fee of around £41–45 million.
During his time at Liverpool, he made 123 appearances and scored 47 goals, establishing himself as a key figure for both club and country.
Jota also played a vital role for Portugal, helping the national team win the UEFA Nations League twice. He featured in the Nations League final win over Spain just days before his untimely death.
