Cross River: Ban on Commercial Motorcycles in Calabar Metropolis Not Lifted, Says Gov't

The Cross River State Government has again reinforced the existing ban on commercial motorcycle operations within Calabar metropolis and Calabar South, stressing that the restriction remains in full effect.
According to a press release dated July 4, 2025, and signed by the Chief Press Secretary/Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, Mr. Linus Obogo, the ban affects major routes such as Murtala Muhammed Highway, Ndidem Usang Iso (Mariam Road), IBB Way, Diamond Hill, MCC (Mobil through Akai Effa), Calabar Road, Mary Slessor, and Etta Agbor, among others.
The release emphasized that commercial motorcyclists are only allowed to operate within designated areas in the 8 Miles axis and surrounding interior routes. These include: Nasarawa, Bacoco, Ikot Eneobong, Basin Authority Interior, Nyakasang/Access School Road, Edim Otop, Harbour Road, Eburuotu Army Barracks Road, Lemna Road, Egerton Street, Agro Feed Road, 8 Miles, Tinapa Road, Scanobo Road, Axari Road, Ekorinim Road and Satellite Town Interior.
The government has warned all operators to comply strictly with the directive or risk arrest and prosecution. The statement further clarified that enforcement of the order is solely the responsibility of the Office of the State Security Adviser.
