The Cross River state Ministry of Environment's newly inaugurated taskforce on Environmental Sanitation has frowned at activities of major transport companies operating in the state who flaunt sanitation laws without recourse.

Leader of the taskforce and Commissioner of Environment, Obol Moses Osogi who made the announcement shortly after monitoring this month's edition of the exercise condemned

the attitude of some motor park operators for violating the environmental sanitation regulations.

According to him, the hostile behaviour displayed by some staff of the transport companies is a course of concern when taskforce personnel attempted to ensure compliance. Hence government decision to seal off the business premises due to incessant disregard to the state's environmental sanitation laws.

"We are going to seal off"Peacemass Transport" premises in Calabar, this is not the first time they fight physically with taskforce members. Environmental Sanitation exercise is an established law, if you are operating in the state, you must obey the law of the land."

"The Governor, Senator Prince Bassey Otu has spelt it out clearly that Environmental Sanitation has come to stay and people are complying, so why will Peace Mass transport company be an exception. The best step to take is to close close down the place to show that nobody is above the law," Osogi emphasized.

He however expressed satisfaction with the level of complace recorded during the June 2026 exercise, describing it as encouraging.

Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant on Environment, Dr. Magnus Ntui, described the June sanitation exercise as one of the most successful in recent times, attributing the high compliance level to increased public awareness.

"We no longer need to chase people to keep their surroundings clean. Residents are now consciously participating in the sanitation exercise, and this is commendable. It is a testament to the sustained public enlightenment efforts of the Ministry of Environment."

Monitoring teams observed residents actively cleaning their surroundings across the state capital, while the Mobile Court prosecuted sanitation offenders to reinforce compliance with environmental laws.
