APC Hails Prof Offiong’s Emergence as Unical Vice Chancellor

The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Cross River State has applauded the appointment of Professor Offiong Efanga Offiong as the new Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, describing it as a reward for his decades of dedication to education, scholarship and public service.
In a congratulatory message issued on Thursday, the State Publicity Secretary, Hon Emmanuel Edem Inyang, conveyed the goodwill of the State Chairman, Alphonsus Ogar Eba, and the State Executive Committee to Professor Offiong and his family. The party said his elevation reflects a distinguished career rooted in academic excellence, capacity building and leadership.
According to the statement, Professor Offiong’s journey from a young lecturer to a Professor of Chemistry at the University of Calabar has been marked by commitment to mentoring and grooming young scholars for societal development.
The APC noted that Professor Offiong made a remarkable impact during his service as Commissioner for Education between 2007 and 2015. Under his watch, the education sector in Cross River State recorded notable improvements in infrastructure and learning outcomes across the eighteen local government areas. The performance of students in national examinations also improved significantly during the period.
The party further commended his role in the establishment of the Institute of Technology and Management in Ugep and the reopening of the College of Education, Akamkpa, which has now transitioned into the University of Education and Entrepreneurial Studies.
Describing him as a leader who embodies integrity, humility and service, the APC said Professor Offiong’s appointment has brought pride to Cross River State and represents a victory for merit and excellence.
“We celebrate this milestone with you and pray that God grants you wisdom, strength and grace to steer the University of Calabar to new heights,” the statement added.
The party expressed confidence that Professor Offiong’s leadership would strengthen the university’s academic credentials and foster an environment that promotes research, innovation and institutional growth.
