Ikom 1 Stakeholders Endorse Neji-Abang for Second Term, Vow to Stand by Decision
Stakeholders from the seven political wards of Ikom 1 State Constituency have passed a vote of confidence in Hon. Samuel Neji-Abang, member representing the constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly, and endorsed him for a second term.
The endorsement came during a constituency stakeholders’ meeting held at Rossylight Hotel, Ikom, where community leaders from Yala Nkum, Ofutop 1 & 2, Ikom Urban 1 & 2, Olulumo, and Akparabong reviewed the lawmaker’s scorecard.
After Neji-Abang presented his achievements, the stakeholders commended his “dedication to hard work, accessibility, and visible impact,” which they said had brought succour to constituents. They resolved that he should return for a second term to complete ongoing projects across the constituency.
The resolution followed a motion moved by Hon. Kasetimanentui Ayiba, Councillor representing Ikom Urban 2 in the Ikom Legislative Assembly, and seconded by Hon. Njang Ndoma of Ikom Urban 1.
Dr. Bassey Okim, Commissioner for State Planning and chairman of the meeting, backed the call for continuity. “It is wise for the lawmaker to return to the Assembly for a second term, given the kind of impact he created in his first term,” Okim said.
Okim, a former State Security Adviser to ex-Governor Liyel Imoke, noted that Neji-Abang had recorded “developmental strides across critical sectors” and reaffirmed the lawmaker’s commitment to “people-oriented leadership” for Ikom 1.
While reeling out his achievements, Neji-Abang highlighted ongoing water scheme projects across various wards and what he described as his “effective representation” of the constituency.
In his remarks, the lawmaker pledged to strengthen oversight of state Ministries, Departments and Agencies to ensure constituency projects are delivered on time and within budget. He also promised to institutionalise quarterly town hall meetings across the seven wards to harvest feedback ahead of Assembly sessions.
“I will create a public dashboard to track constituency project implementation to provide succour to my constituents,” Neji-Abang said.
Prominent voices at the meeting included Chief Francis Bojor Ndifon, aka Ogbana, President General of the Ekpache Nkom Socio-political Group.
The gathering, which drew the “crème de la crème” from across the constituency, ended with a unanimous endorsement of Neji-Abang’s leadership, with stakeholders expressing “strong satisfaction” with his performance and a shared vision for “sustained progress and inclusive development” in Ikom 1.
