Presidential Villa To Switch From National Grid To 100% Solar March 2026
The Aso Rock Presidential Villa is set to fully disconnect from the national electricity grid by March 2026, due to the completion of its solar power project.
State House Permanent Secretary, Temitope Fashedemi, revealed this while defending the State House's 2026 budget before the Senate Committee on Special Duties.
According to Fashedemi, the solar installation, completed in late 2025, has been undergoing testing since December to ensure stability and efficiency.
Fashedemi expressed confidence that the switch to solar energy will lead to substantial savings in electricity costs, citing the State House Medical Centre as a success story.
The medical centre has been running solely on solar power since May 2025, with no generator usage.
The project, initially allocated N10 billion in the 2025 budget, has an additional N7 billion proposed in the 2026 Appropriation Bill for consolidation. This move is expected to significantly reduce the cost of running the Presidential Villa, which previously accumulated substantial electricity debts, including a N342.35 million liability to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).
