Police Arrest 54-Year-Old Suspect Over Alleged Killing of TRAMA Official in Calabar

The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 54-year-old man, identified as Godwin Okoko, in connection with the alleged murder of a staff member of the Traffic Management and Regulatory Agency (TRAMA) in Calabar.
The incident reportedly occurred on Monday, May 25, 2026, at about 9:45 a.m. in the Marian Hill area of Calabar, following a distress call received by the Command during a traffic enforcement operation.
According to a press statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, the TRAMA officials were carrying out lawful enforcement duties when they were allegedly attacked by a commercial minibus driver suspected of violating traffic regulations.
The attack left three TRAMA officials injured. One of them reportedly sustained a severe chest wound after being stabbed with a screwdriver. He was rushed to a hospital for emergency treatment but was later confirmed dead by medical personnel. The remaining two injured officers are currently receiving treatment and are said to be responding positively.
The statement further disclosed that police operatives responded swiftly to the distress call, leading to the arrest of the suspect at the scene.
The suspect is currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Calabar, as investigations continue to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Command condemned the attack, describing violence against law enforcement and regulatory officers as unacceptable, and assured that justice will be diligently pursued in line with the law.
