PDP Reaffirms Support for Wike, Reaffirms Support For Candidates in C' River

By Judex OKORO

The Cross River chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its unflinching support for the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, while expressing confidence in the party's prospects ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

The resolutions were contained in a communiqué signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Mr Mike Ojisi, and issued at the end of the party's State Executive Committee (SEC) meeting held on Thursday in Calabar,

The meeting was chaired by the State Chairman of the party, Mr Venatius Ikem.

According to the communiqué, the SEC expressed appreciation to Wike for what it described as his support and contributions to the Cross River chapter of the party.

The committee also congratulated Prof. Sandy Onor on his emergence as the party's presidential candidate, describing him as a leader with the capacity to provide national leadership.

It further acknowledged what it called Onor's contributions and support to the party.

The SEC criticised the administration of the ruling party in Cross River, alleging poor governance, and expressed optimism that the PDP would regain control of the state through the democratic process.

The committee also inaugurated new members of the State Executive Committee and charged them to remain committed, diligent and loyal to the party.

According to the communiqué, candidates who emerged from the party's recently concluded primary elections were presented to the SEC and received the endorsement of members.

The candidates were urged to leverage the party's structure in their campaigns ahead of the elections.

The committee also echoed the position of the party's governorship candidate, Sir Arthur-Jarvis Archibong, that the PDP remained the state's strongest opposition party and was poised for a turnaround.

The SEC further directed chapter chairmen to review the progress of the party's electronic membership registration exercise and intensify efforts toward its successful completion.

It said the committee also considered a report on the affairs of the party since the current leadership assumed office and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the PDP across the state.

The meeting ended with members pledging to uphold the party's constitution, deepen internal democracy and work toward building a stronger PDP in Cross River State.
