By Judex Okoro

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), Prof. Francisca Bassey, has reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to providing world-class learning infrastructure, expressing satisfaction with the pace and quality of work on the University’s ICT/Multimedia Complex as the project enters its final stage of completion.

Prof. Bassey gave the assurance during an inspection of the facility on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, accompanied by principal officers of the University, project engineers, consultants and site supervisors. The visit formed part of the University’s routine quality assurance process to ensure that ongoing capital projects meet the highest standards before being delivered for academic and administrative use.

The Vice Chancellor recalled that the project commenced after she handed over the site to the contractor in April 2025, noting with delight that within just over a year, the structure has progressed from foundation level to an almost completed, ultra-modern edifice that reflects the University’s vision for excellence, innovation and digital transformation.

She described the development as a clear demonstration of UNICROSS’ determination to build infrastructure capable of supporting 21st-century teaching, learning, research and technological advancement.

Inspection of the facility showed that most internal installations have been completed, with the ICT laboratories already fitted with modern workstations, ergonomic furniture and spacious work desks. Computer systems earmarked for the laboratories have also been secured ahead of installation and commissioning.

The learning spaces are further enhanced with contemporary interior designs, creative wall graphics and modern finishing that provide a stimulating environment for innovation, collaboration and academic excellence.

The executive and administrative offices have equally been completed with premium fittings, elegant wall finishes, polished floor tiles, high-quality doors and energy-efficient air-conditioning systems, creating a professional and comfortable workplace for staff.

Beyond its impressive functionality, the complex reflects contemporary architectural standards through its decorative interiors, inspirational leadership quotations, modern lighting fixtures, tastefully finished corridors and aesthetically designed stairways that reinforce the University’s aspiration to create a globally competitive learning environment.

The exterior of the building is equally striking, featuring a sleek glass façade with tinted panels, neatly finished walls and carefully installed mechanical fittings. Safety and accessibility were also given priority, with reinforced staircases, durable handrails, emergency fire alarm systems, clearly designated exit routes and strategically positioned surveillance facilities incorporated into the design.

Commending the project team, Prof. Bassey praised the engineers, consultants, contractors and site personnel for their professionalism and dedication to delivering a project that aligns with the University’s strategic goals.

She urged the contractors to maintain the current momentum by completing the remaining finishing touches, final cleaning and quality assurance procedures to pave the way for the commissioning of the facility.

Upon completion, the ICT/Multimedia Complex is expected to become the hub of digital learning, research, innovation and multimedia production at UNICROSS, significantly enhancing the University’s capacity to deliver technology-driven education.
