The Ebonyi State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned in strong terms the killing of 13 Ebonyians residing in Ogboji community, Anambra state, describing the incident as a brutal and senseless act of violence.
In a statement issued on Saturday and signed by the State Chairman of the party, Dr. Jennifer Adibe, the ADC expressed outrage over the killings and called on the federal and Anambra state governments to act swiftly to ensure justice is served.
The statement reads in part:
“The ADC Ebonyi State chapter condemns this act of terrorism in the strongest terms possible. This senseless and heinous act of violence is a clear indication of the escalating insecurity and lawlessness in our country.
"The party demands a thorough investigation into the killings to ensure that all perpetrators are identified and brought to justice without delay.
“We demand that the federal and state governments take immediate and decisive action to bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice.
“We are deeply concerned about the rising ethnic tensions and violence in Nigeria, which threatens the very fabric of our national unity,” the statement noted.
"We urge all to remain calm and law-abiding, even in the face of provocation. We also call on the federal and state governments to take proactive measures to address the root causes of these conflicts and ensure that justice is served.
“We pray for the repose of the souls of the departed and for the speedy recovery of those injured,” the party added.
The killings have triggered concerns among Ebonyians living in other states as the ADC joins calls for greater protection of lives and property of Nigerians irrespective of ethnic or state identity.
