INEC Opens Candidate Portal as APC Disowns Primary List
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is expected to release portal access codes to political parties today, enabling them to upload the names and nomination documents of candidates for the 2027 general election.
The release of the codes was initially scheduled for Friday, June 26, but was shifted to Monday to ensure a seamless upload process, according to sources within the commission and the political parties.
INEC had earlier distributed the required nomination forms to political parties, making the portal access codes the final requirement before candidates' details can be submitted electronically.
A source familiar with the process said political parties have completed the distribution of nomination forms to their candidates and are awaiting the access codes to begin uploading the documents to the commission's portal.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has presented Certificates of Return to candidates who emerged from its primary elections. The party also issued INEC nomination forms to the successful aspirants and directed them to complete and return the documents within 72 hours to facilitate timely submission.
The PDP leadership, headed by Abdulrahman Mohammed, also ratified the outcomes of its presidential, governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly primaries ahead of the 2027 general election.
In a related development, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has disowned a list circulating on social media claiming to contain the names of winners of its primary elections.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party described the list as false and unauthorized, insisting that no official list of successful candidates had been released.
The APC urged its members and the public to disregard the document, stating that successful aspirants would be formally notified through the party's official communication channels before receiving their Certificates of Return.
