Armourer DSP Isah Commits Suicide As NSA Burst Terrorists' Arm Dealer in Niger State
Operatives of the National Security Adviser (NSA) have swooped on the Niger state Police Command and bust a syndicate of arms and ammunition suppliers to bandits/terrorists in the state.
Consequently, the NSA arrested DSP Abdullahi Isah, the Command’s armourer, and other policemen involved in the crime.
DSP Isah, however, reportedly committed suicide by shooting himself in the head in the course of investigative auditing of the Armoury in Minna Thursday.
The deceased DSP Isah attached to 12 PMF Minna was initially arrested and taken to Abuja on December 15, for being allegedly involved in illegal dealings of ammunition, but was brought to his office in Minna on December 16 for routine arms audit before he committed suicide.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed that while the audit process was on-going, the officer shot himself in the head with a pistol he picked within the office and died on the spot.
It was learnt that further investigation led to the arrest of a police inspector, John Moses, attached to the Niger state Government House in Minna who confessed that the late DSP supplied him with arms and ammunition for onward delivery to bandits and other hoodlums in Erena community in Shiroro local government area of the state.
A source said, “The Inspector disclosed further that the arms and ammunition were subsequently sold to the bandits through his brother, an indigene of the area, who is also an informant to the criminals.”
It was gathered that the officers that accompanied the deceased to the armoury were immediately arrested and are facing Orderly room trial for alleged “negligence and murder.
Also, four police officers attached to the late DSP were arrested and equally undergoing interrogation.
The source added, “A special team from the office of the NSA is guarding the armoury 24 hours pending when a solution would be found to its opening and closing mechanism known only to the deceased armourer.”
When contacted, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adamu Elleman, confirmed the story, saying Inspector John Moses was still facing investigations in the office of the National Security Adviser in Abuja.
Elleman recounted how the DSP killed himself, saying the deceased “smartly brought out a pistol and shot himself when he started bringing out boxes that were supposed to contain ammunition and they were all empty.”
The police boss, however, said an autopsy would be carried out on the body of the deceased to determine the actual cause of his death.
The police also busted another syndicate supplying arms to bandits in the Pandogari area of Rafi LGA of the state, according to the PPRO.
He said, “On November 4, 2025, at about 5:00pm, based on intelligence received, Police operatives of FID STS in Niger state arrested one Zuwaira Usman, 35, of Pandogari, Rafi LGA. She was arrested based on information intercepted that she specialised in transporting ammunition for hoodlums.
“Zuwaira further narrated that on getting to her destination, she met a man on a motorcycle who gave her a sack which contained a flask with some items to deliver to Lawali. She took the bag to Lawali in Birnin-Gwari and it was discovered that a total of two thousand, five hundred AK-47 ammunition were contained in the flask delivered to Lawali."
