2027: Obubra 1 Endorses Hon. Agbor for Second Term, Backs Continuity Agenda for 2027

The political landscape in Obubra Constituency 1 has taken a new direction as leaders of the area have unanimously endorsed the second term ambition of the member representing the constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly, Hon. Ovat Agbor, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The decision was reached at an expanded leadership meeting held at the residence of Bishop Chris Obase in Calabar, where stakeholders resolved to consolidate support behind a single candidate.

At the end of the meeting, the Constituency Leadership Forum declared: “We would all concede for Hon. Ovat in 2027,” a position leaders explained as a total alignment of party structures, withdrawal of internal rivalry and unified support for the lawmaker.

According to the forum, the resolution reflects a deliberate shift from contestation to consolidation and from experimentation to continuity.

Leaders drawn from various wards in the constituency unanimously backed the decision after reviewing Hon. Agbor’s performance at midterm.

They cited several ongoing projects and interventions, including solar-powered borehole schemes across wards, the creation of 30 direct jobs, the Obubra–Across the River road project, and the renovation of Government Comprehensive Secondary School, Eja.

On legislative performance, the forum noted that two motions and bills sponsored by the lawmaker have passed second reading and are currently at the committee stage of the Assembly.

The stakeholders also commended his emergency response interventions, particularly his support during a cholera outbreak in parts of the constituency in collaboration with health partners.

The leaders argued that the first term should be regarded as a foundation phase, while a second term would ensure completion and consolidation of ongoing projects.

They further maintained that sustained development in Obubra 1 depends on continuity in representation, especially synergy between the legislative arm and the state executive led by Governor Bassey Edet Otu.

According to them, development in Cross River State is driven by cooperation between the executive and legislature, warning that any disruption of such alignment in 2027 could slow down ongoing projects and affect the constituency’s development progress.

The leadership reaffirmed respect for zoning arrangements but insisted that rotational considerations must allow the completion of an existing tenure.

They directed ward structures within the constituency not to sponsor or support any challenger to Hon. Agbor under the party platform.

The forum said its focus going forward will be on continuity and consolidation, with emphasis on completing road projects, advancing legislative initiatives and sustaining job creation efforts.

An elder at the meeting summed up the decision, saying it was not about personal interest but the future of the constituency.

“We are not endorsing a man. We are endorsing the future of Obubra 1,” he said.

The meeting ended with a unanimous reaffirmation of support for Hon. Ovat Agbor’s re-election bid under what leaders described as a continuity and completion agenda for the constituency
