‎A traffic enforcement officer of the Traffic Management and Regulatory Agency (TRAMRA) has been killed after he was allegedly stabbed with a screwdriver by a commercial minibus driver while on duty in Calabar South.

‎According to a press release issued by the Traffic Management and Regulatory Agency (TRAMRA) and signed by its Public Relations Officer, Gabriel Ojie, the incident occurred on May 25, 2026, at about 10:00 a.m. during a routine traffic enforcement operation.

‎The agency stated that the officer, who was in uniform and unarmed, was carrying out lawful duties aimed at ensuring order and safety on the roads when he was attacked without provocation by a commercial minibus driver.

‎He was reportedly stabbed in the chest with a screwdriver and later died from his injuries despite efforts to save his life.

‎TRAMRA described the incident as “brutal and unprovoked,” condemning the killing and calling it an attack on law enforcement officers and public safety.

‎The agency said it has reported the matter to the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies, demanding the immediate arrest and prosecution of the suspect.

‎It also appealed to commercial drivers and transport unions to avoid violence and cooperate with traffic officials, stressing that enforcement officers are deployed to ensure safety and order on the roads.

‎TRAMRA reaffirmed its commitment to continue its traffic management duties despite the incident, while urging the public to support ongoing investigations by providing useful information to security agencies.
