UNICAL Student Sets World Record of 188 Hours Writing Duration

A University of Calabar (UNICAL) student, Daniel Ehis, has set world record for the longest duration of 188 hours write-a-thon.

Ehis is a 300 level student of philosophy department in the University of Calabar. The event started in October 1, 2023 at SUG secretariat.

The event attracted the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof Florence Banku Obi, the Dean of Students' affairs, Dr. Tony Enyang, principal officers, the press and students.

Speaking shortly after the completion of the longest duration of writing by the Edo born Daniel Ehis, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi described the action as a phenomenal feat pointing out that the student has placed the University in a positive path.

Prof. Obi said that the management had already informed the Minister of Education Prof. Tahir Mamman and the acting secretary general of the the National Universities Commission, Prince Mayaki of the event and promised them that the student would break a record.

She further cited great authors like Prof Chinua Achebe and Chimamanda Adichie who had written several books but they couldn't write for one hundred and eighty eight hours continuously but Daniel Ehis completed writing 17 books of both fiction and nonfiction stories continuously.

Prof. Obi however, admonished other students to emulate Daniel in the effort to giving the institution international recognition. She also said that the management will not hesitate to give the student a facelift as it has already written to Guinness about the 188 hours longest duration write-a-thon.

Responding to questions from journalist, the writer, Daniel Ehis said he was happy to complete the write-a-thon and encouraged young people to toe the path of writing.
