A CALABAR-based maritime transport outfit, Sea Express Transit Limited has inaugurated a 100-capacity vessel to ferry passengers shuttling between Calabar, Cross Rivers State, in South-South Nigeria, and Limbe, South Western Cameroon.
The new development is expected to boost International trade between the two neighbouring countries while expanding new frontiers of investment along the maritime sector in the sub-region.
Speaking at the event, the Logistics Officer of Sea Express Transit, Sibala Ivara said the venture was driven by the quest to project the huge maritime potential of the state which has remained untapped despite its enormous investment opportunities
According to him" Our state, Cross River is hugely endowed especially in terms of maritime potentials. From Calabar, you can access Central African states, Europe, and the rest of the world. But the maritime sector has been dormant.
"What Sea Express has done is to pave the way by drawing attention to this huge blue economy potential of the state which could be exploited in upscaling the tourism drive of the state as well as promoting economic diversification"
"We started with the smaller boat but owing to the volume of traffic on the route, we had to upgrade to a 100-capacity vessel, MV Odeluwa which is a suitable vessel spacious enough to accommodate 100 passengers in maximum comfort and safe serenity"
"Our operations are in tandem with global best practices. Passengers must be screened and cleared by the various regulatory agencies involved in international travel. Possession of a valid Yellow Paper is mandatory"
On the fares being charged for the trip, Ivara disclosed that" Economic class goes for N160,000 while Premium attracts N230,000. Departure from Calabar is Tuesdays and the return trip from Limbe is the following day, Wednesday.
