POLITICS: Akume, Al-Makura, Faleke Jostle For APC National Chairmanship Position

From Abdul SULE, ABUJA

SOME North-Central political  heavyweights have intensified lobby for the chairmanship position of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The top heavyweights include Senator George Akume, the incumbent Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Tanko Al-Makura (Nasarawa State), representing North Central zoning and Hon. James Faleke, a politician from Kogi State based in South-West and is deeply entrenched in party logistics. They are all close ally of President Tinubu.

The President is committed to installing a candidate who can help consolidate his base ahead of a potentially tough 2027 re-election campaign, while also mending fences with disgruntled zones.

Ahead of party’s NEC scheduled to meet on July 24, and decide Ganduje’s successor, political observers believe that President Tinubu is carefully balancing regional demands and personal loyalty in deciding the next chairman.
