NUJ Endorses NAWOJ Int'l Women's Day Celebration

The Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Akwa Ibom State Council, Comrade Amos Etuk has pledged the Union's determination and commitment to support the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Akwa Ibom State Chapter in their upcoming event of celebrating the International Women's Day (IWD) scheduled for March 26th, 2024.
This was the reaction of the Chairman when he and members of the State Working Committee (SWC) of the Union received in audience the Planning Committee of the NAWOJ 2024 Women Day Celebration as led by the chairperson of NAWOJ, Comrade Nsikak Okon.
Etuk described women globally as a special gender who have distinguished themselves professionally and have attained excellence in what they do, thereby remaining a force to reckon with as well as worthy of support.
He lauded the idea of the upcoming event describing it as a noble and commendable initiative that will catapult the capacity of Ak NAWOJ to the knowledge of the people within and outside Akwa Ibom State.
"I welcome you all for seeking this audience with the State Council and also thank NAWOJ, Akwa Ibom State Chapter under the present leadership for the unity and peace that I have seen so far, also for the synergy that NAWOJ have with the State Council.
We are proud of you and in extension the NUJ at the national have incorporated women into various leadership positions just as its done in Akwa Ibom State Council".
"I want to commend Akwa Ibom women in journalism practice (NAWOJ) for their wonderful strides and for the coperation they have given to the State Council.
Nawojians have become go-getters and bridge builders, and to this extent the State Council have not hesitated to give them chairmanship of series of events in which they have delivered effectively on their assigned obligations".
"I have been following your programmes including your consistency in holding monthly meetings just like the State Council does, this is what promotes commitment and the togetherness of members, and it also helps to guard against discordant tunes".
"Let me thank you for forcusing on the international women's day celebration in Akwa Ibom State especially on the plan to empower women. It's indeed a noble idea and worth celebrating.
Women globally have distinguished themselves in different fields of their professional endeavours and it calls for attention and how to ensure that they are supported, for there's a greater horizon of the capacity of what they can do generally in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria and globally".
"The upcoming event is a noble idea and commendable initiative which the State Council will gladly support because if you can organize the event successfully, it will leave a legacy and milestone on this leadership.
You will make impact not only in Akwa Ibom State and people will know that beyond the peace, there's capacity and exemplary leadership that is driving the women towards a unified direction of success".
Earlier in his speech, the leader of the team and chairman of NAWOJ, Comrade Nsikak Okon had commended the chairman and members of the SWC for the various developmental programmes, projects and decisions in the State Council especially as it concerns the determination to rid the Union of quackery, welfare of members and the completion of the NUJ Hall among other laudable projects.
She intimated the Chairman that members of the NAWOJ International Women's Day Celebration Committee were on a courtesy call to the chairman to seek support and collaboration for the success of the event..
"AK Ibom NAWOJ commends your effort in redefining NUJ Akwa Ibom State Council judging from the development that we are witnessing during your tenure, including the completion of the NUJ Hall.
"Of greater significance is your determination of ridding the Union of quackery and ensuring that you work with only certified Journalists.
"All this and more is achievable because of your effort and determination to reposition the Union for the best despite challenges.
"We are here to tell you and members of the SWC that NAWOJ in Akwa Ibom State is going to celebrate the 2024 International women's Day, this year we are going to celebrate ourselves as women and as Journalists.
The event is slated for March 26th, 2024 and we intend to empower one hundred (100) women. Venue for the event is the NUJ Press center.
The Committee has decided to pay a courtesy call to solicit the State Council's support towards the success of the event".
In her vote of thanks, the chairman of the Committee, Comrade Vivian Essiet who thanked the NUJ chairman and members of SWC for playing host to the Committee, disclosed that the upcoming event will among other activities feature the induction of outstanding Akwa Ibom women into the AK NAWOJ Hall of Fame.
