The people of Basan-Mbube in Ogoja Local Government Area have benefitted the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) largese as they recieve solar-power street lights in their community.

The street lights which were facilitated by the state representative of the NDDC Rt. Hon. Orok Otu Duke are installed in a bid to enhance safety, security as well as provide the illumination to the community.

Since taking over office in 2023 as the Cross River State NDDC rep, Hon. Orok Duke has facilitated alot of projects across the 3 senatorial districts of the state which have impacted directly on the individuals and development of the society at large.

Hon. Duke reiterated that the commission was established to serve the people of the Niger Delta Region by intervening in crucial areas as the need be.

Some residents of Basan-Mbube expressed appreciation for the project describing it as an indication that they haven't been forgotten by the government. A community member Mr. Anthony Okwe, while commenting on the project expressed appreciation to the NDDC for finding them worthy to benefit from their intervention.

He however appealed for more lights to be provided for them as only a few streets had benefitted from this installation while a huge percentage of the community is still in darkness. Chief Duke however acknowledged the feedback from the community members while assuring them that more lights will be provided as the distribution is in phases.

Beyond the streetlight project, Chief Duke also shared updates on the much-anticipated NDDC internship programme, assuring Cross Riverians of a balanced and transparent selection process.

He highlighted that the upcoming list would reflect a fair representation of qualified candidates from the state, especially targeting youths in need of career opportunities and empowerment.

"We are committed to ensuring that Cross Riverians are not left behind in the internship programme. It will be an inclusive process," he noted.
