BREAKING: Court Adjourns Hearing on Odey Oyama and Others Till Friday 17 Amidst Bail Controversy

The case of the Executive Director,  Rainforest Resource and Development Center (RRDC) Prince Odey Oyama and 4 others that were arrested in Okuni  in Ikom local government area has been adjourned till tomorrow Friday January 17.

Odey who was arrested on Tuesday alongside 4 others had been in police custody before being speedily charged and arraigned in court today Thursday January 16 at the Magistrate Court 1, Moore Road, Calabar.

The defending council,  filed for bail for the 5 stating: "The defendants are respected individuals of the society with no history of fleeing justice and would always make themselves available whenever they are invited.

The prosecutors argued vehemently against granting Odey and others bail, citing that they might abscond to Cameroon if released on bail.

The presiding Judge however adjourned the case for further hearing tomorrow Friday January 17 while the defendants were remanded in police custody.

As at press time, the main reason for the arrest and prosecution was not clear but concerned individuals who spoke with Beagle Newspaper Correspondent believe it centers on community issues.

Others arrested alongside Odey Oyama were, Alobi Ofuka, 
Ogbesi Missang Opene, 
Samuel Agbor and 
Konye Edim Eka
