The Cross River State Immunization Plus and Malaria Progress by Accelerating Coverage and Transforming Services (IMPACT) Project has awarded contracts for the revitalization of 82 Primary Health Centres across the state, with a charge for quality service delivery from stakeholders.
Addressing successful bidders during the award and signing of memorandum of understanding ceremony, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Egbe Ayuk, described vendors as “the most important stakeholders in project implementation,” adding that the success or failure of a project lies with the service provider.
He tasked the contractors to prove themselves as worthy partners of the state in its pursuit for a revitalized health system in Cross River state.
Restating the Governor Bassey Otu-led administration’s unwavering stand on quality, he also charged the contractors to bring their expertise to bear by delivering quality jobs that would be commensurate to every Naira spent.
“Try as much as possible to do your work well. If you do your job well, it will elicit further partnership with the Government for more jobs. But if you renege on your contractual obligation to do quality work, the state government will leave no stone unturned in holding you accountable.
“We are grateful and delighted with the progress that has been made so far. We want to hope that between now and March, His Excellency, Governor Bassey Otu will begin to commission these facilities,” he stated.
In her remarks, the Director General of the State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Vivien Mesembe Otu, stated that the revitalization project is dear to the state as it underscores a critical scorecard for the health sector in the present administration.
Emphasizing on strict supervision, monitoring and evaluation, the Director General enjoined the contractors to put in their best in the execution of the projects in order to deliver quality healthcare to the people of Cross River State.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the IMPACT Project Manager, Dr. Paul Odey, informed that, for a rancor free implementation, the World Bank thought it wise to adopt a lotting system in a national open bid for the award of contracts for the revitalization of 82 Primary Healthcare facilities, splitting the contracts into four lots.
He said 22 companies made entries in the entire project, with the four best qualified selected after a thorough bid evaluation process.
“We will monitor these projects to ensure strict compliance with contractual agreements,” he assured.
The Project Procurement Officer, Mrs Ajie Achu, listed the successful bidders for the four lots to include Ryte Reazon, Evat Limited, Geo-Resm, and Chafel Limited.
She further noted that lot one covers the revitalization of 22 PHCs, while the other three lots have 20 PHCs apiece.
The award and signing of memorandum of understanding was held at the IMPACT Project Office, Ministry of Health Headquarters, Calabar.
