A political advocacy group, Cross River Youth in Politics for Good Governance, has endorsed 14 aspirants for senatorial, House of Representatives and state assembly positions ahead of the 2027 general elections in the state.
The group said the endorsement followed extensive grassroots consultations and assessments of the aspirants’ leadership qualities, accessibility and commitment to public service.
Among those endorsed is Hon. Victor Abang for the Boki/Ikom Federal Constituency seat.
Others on the list include Hon. Oden Ewa for the Cross River Central Senatorial District, Chief Henry Dennis Bassey for Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency, Barr. Ijom Ukam for Akamkpa/Biase, Barr. Godwin Offiono for Ogoja/Yala, and Dan Obo Jnr for Obubra/Etung Federal Constituency.
For the Cross River State House of Assembly, the group endorsed Sir John Odo Eru for Yala 1, Mrs. Jennifer Michael Usani Ibiang for Yakurr 1, Grace Unah for Yala 2, Hon. Samuel Neji Abang for Ikom 1, Comrade Victor Bassey for Abi, Phylo Modlin Odu for Boki, Victor Essien Ekpe for Calabar South 2, and Hon. Engr. Thomas Aruku for Ogoja.
Speaking on the endorsements, the group described the aspirants as individuals with proven grassroots appeal, leadership capacity and records of community service.
The group noted that Hon. Victor Abang has remained visible in legislative activities and constituency representation, while Hon. Oden Ewa was praised for his experience in public service and political engagement within Cross River Central.
It also commended Chief Henry Dennis Bassey for his contributions to community development in Abi/Yakurr, while Barr. Ijom Ukam and Barr. Godwin Offiono were recognised for their advocacy and governance driven political engagements.
According to the group, the endorsements were based strictly on merit and the perceived ability of the aspirants to deliver quality representation to their constituents.
“Our objective is to encourage credible leadership and deepen youth participation in governance across Cross River State,” the group stated.
Political observers believe the endorsement may influence political alignments and grassroots mobilization ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly among young voters who continue to play an increasingly significant role in Nigeria’s electoral process.
The development is also expected to shape conversations within party structures as preparations for the next electoral cycle gradually gather momentum across the state.
