Cameroonian Troops’ Incursion into Cross River, No Cause for Alarm Says Nigerian Army
The 82 Division of the Nigerian Army has said that the unauthorized entry of Cameroonian soldiers into Danare Community, Boki LGA of Cross River State, has been contained and normalcy restored.
In a statement signed by the Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, , the Division said it received reports on 9 June 2026 of Cameroonian Armed Forces personnel entering Nigerian territory.
“Troops deployed at the Forward Operating Base Danare promptly responded and contacted the appropriate Cameroonian Armed Forces authority,. This led to the withdrawal of Cameroonian troops from Nigerian territory in line with established border protocols. The situation was immediately contained without further escalation" the statement read.
Findings attributed the incursion to a dispute over the collection of levies on farmland located between Danare Community in Nigeria and Dadi Community in Cameroon.
The General Officer Commanding 82 Division has however directed the Commander of 13 Brigade to engage his Cameroonian counterpart to strengthen border coordination, clarify operating procedures, and also prevent future occurrences.
The Army assured of its commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity and protecting border communities.
They urged the public to remain calm, continue lawful activities, and avoid spreading unverified information that could create tension.
