2027: Wike Threatens Sanctions Over PDP Leadership Tussle, Targets Banks, Landlords in Abuja

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has warned that any house in Abuja used as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) headquarters by the faction led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki will be sealed off.

Wike also cautioned that any bank that allows the Turaki-led PDP faction to open an account for the sale of nomination forms ahead of the 2027 general elections would face serious consequences.

He described any attempt by the faction to sell nomination forms as fraudulent, insisting that it would amount to duping Nigerians.

The FCT Minister further escalated his warning, saying that if any bank proceeds to open such an account under the current arrangement, he would take steps that could affect those involved professionally.

He made the remarks on Wednesday during his monthly media briefing while responding to questions from journalists.

According to him, “Any bank that allows the Turaki-led PDP to open an account for the sale of nomination forms will be in trouble. I will seal off any house that allows them to use it as the PDP headquarters.”

The development comes amid renewed tensions within the PDP following a Supreme Court judgment linked to the party’s leadership crisis.

In response to the ruling, the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the PDP, led by former Senate President Adolphus Wabara, announced that it had assumed control of the party’s leadership to prevent a vacuum.

The BoT argued that the Supreme Court decision invalidated the party’s November 2025 national convention in Ibadan, which produced the Turaki-led National Working Committee.

It also claimed the ruling affected the status of suspended party officials, including Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Umar Bature, and Kamaldeen Ajibade, stating that actions taken by them, including the appointment of an acting national chairman and the conduct of subsequent party processes, were invalid.

However, the PDP faction aligned with Wike has rejected the claim that there is a leadership vacuum in the party.

In a counter-statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, the faction insisted that Abdulrahman Mohammed remains the legitimate national chairman of the party.

The internal dispute continues to deepen divisions within the PDP as preparations build toward the 2027 general elections.
