2027: Otu Orders Aides Eyeing Elective Offices to Resign by March 26
By Ekanem Asuquo
Governor Bassey Edet Otu has directed all political appointees in Cross River State who intend to contest the 2027 general elections to resign from office on or before March 26, 2026.
The directive was issued during a State Executive Council meeting, where the governor emphasised the need for total commitment to governance and warned against mixing public office with political ambition.
Otu said the decision was necessary to ensure that government officials remain focused on delivering services to the people without the distractions of early political campaigns.
He stressed that public office is a trust that demands full attention, noting that the administration will not compromise its responsibility to the people of the state.
According to him, the move is not punitive but a principled step aimed at promoting fairness among aspirants and safeguarding the integrity of government institutions. He added that it aligns with democratic best practices.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to its development agenda, including economic diversification, strategic partnerships and improved internally generated revenue.
He called for strict compliance, urging appointees to prioritise accountability, discipline and service to the state above personal political interests.
