PDP Crisis Yet Over As Wike Discountenance Self From Nov. Planned National Convention

THE political crisis rocking the leading opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is yet over as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday denied knowledge of any planned convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The PDP had on Monday announced the constitution of a 110-member organising committee to oversee its 2025 elective national convention slated for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan.

The committee, chaired by Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, includes several PDP governors, former governors, and top party leaders. Notably, Wike’s name was absent from the list.

In a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the PDP explained that the committee is mandated to ensure proper preparations for the exercise, which is expected to allocate key National Working Committee positions across the geopolitical zones.

However, speaking during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme aired on Tuesday, Wike dismissed the move, insisting he had not been informed of any convention.

“Have they given a date for Ibadan? When did NEC agree on that? As a member, I’ve not been told. Nobody has invited me to a NEC meeting for me to say that NEC has sat,” Wike said.

The minister argued that what was announced could not be described as a valid decision of the National Executive Committee.

“Those few people who say they have held a NEC meeting, let it be on record—that is not NEC. In fact, we are meeting tomorrow to challenge it,” he added.
