Wike Storms Calabar, Says No South South Zonal Congress Will Be Held After This One

Judex OKORO
The FCT Minister Nyésom Wike has stated unequivocally that there will be no other zonal Congress after the Calabar congress because it met all constitutional requirements.
Wike, who commended the delegates for being loyal to the party, said there is no way in the constitution that says that the National Working Committee (NEC) of a party must conduct zonal congresses.
According to him, the tenure of South South Zonal executives has come to an end and therefore, there must be a new election and that is why we are in Calabar today to elect new leadership.
On his rift with some party leaders, Wike said: "Before I became the FCT Minister, I wrote to the party and consulted with top echelon who said go and serve so what offence did I commit?. We have elders in this country who don't tell their children the truth.
"For me, I say no, I must tell people the truth. It is wrong that political leaders have refused to tell the truth. We the Southern PDP leaders agreed that we should support a Southern President in 2023 and with the likes of Bode George.
"You have a BoT chairman, who said he has no regrets in praising and supporting the LP Governor in Abia. He said he will continue to support him untill the Governor's second term tickets is guaranteed.
"Besides, the chairman of PDP Governors Forum, went and celebrated that governor from another who won election in his state and it was not anti-party. And the national working committee never rebuked the Governor for adopting another Governorship candidate of another party. You see hypocrisy.
"Nobody again can intimidate or oppress me in this country. I don't need to be a Governor to know my right. I will continue to fight untill the right thing is done and seen to have been done".
He however, commended Sen. Jarigbe, Mr. Donald Duke, former Governor of Cross River State and State Executive of the party for what they have been doing, advising them continue to do their work and unite the party in Cross River state.
Hundreds of delegates across the South South Zone of PDP were at Metropolitan Hotels to elect the new zonal leadership. Members of House of Representatives and Senators also participated in the zonal Congress. INEC and other security agencies were present to witness the Congress.
