President Tinubu Holds Reconciliation Meeting with Wike, Fubara, Rivers Lawmakers

President Bola Tinubu has hosted a closed-door meeting with key stakeholders from Rivers State, including Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly Martins Amaewhule, and other assembly members.
The meeting which held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday was aimed at resolving the prolonged political crisis in the state.
Recall that a power tussle between Wike, the former governor, and Fubara, his successor prompted President Tinubu to declare a state of emergency on March 18, 2025 in the state. The declaration led to the suspension of Fubara and all state lawmakers, with Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas appointed as the sole administrator to manage the state's affairs.
Although there were no official comments from the Presidency or the parties involved, sources indicate that the meeting ended on a positive note, with the parties seemingly resolving their differences.
According to Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu's special adviser on information and strategy, the president's goal was to broker peace in the state, and the meeting was a demonstration of his commitment to resolving the political tension.
