The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has organized a three day workshop and empowerment program for women in Cross River state.

The workshop which held at the event 45 center was to commemorate the International Women’s Day held annually on June 11.

Speaking to newsmen at the event, the State Director of NDDC, Dr. Daniel Ajunwa, highlighted the commission's commitment to gender equality and empowerment, citing the leadership style of NDDC's MD/CEO, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku.

“This event is aimed to recognize the vital role women play in society and provide them with opportunities to network and enhance their leadership skills.

“Women are the genesis and foundation of existence so it is pertinent that we celebrate them and let them know that we appreciate all they do for humanity. NDDC as a commission has decided to take the front row in implementing the International Women’s Day theme ‘Accelerate Action’” Ajunwa said.

Delivering a lead paper, a guest speaker, Chief magistrate Nkechi Usani disclosed that Women’s right is non negotiable but fundamental.

"It's even against the law to discriminate against women. A woman is a power under subjection that is why we must raise our voices for gender equality, repositioning the girl child, and promoting freedom, authority, and capacity for women”.

The workshop featured presentations on gender equality and capacity development, while certificates were issued to participants.

This event is part of NDDC's broader initiative to honor women across the Niger Delta region, following similar celebrations in other Niger Delta states.
