`UNICROSS NASU Protest Over Four Months Salary Arrears, Demands VC' s Sack

Cross River State University (UNICROSS) chapter of Non Academic Staff Union, NASU, has protested non-payment of over four months backlog of salary, demanding the sack of the institution's Vice Chancellor, Prof. Austin Angba.

Members of the Association, who carried placards with several inscriptions, "pay us our four months salary arrears, we are so frustrated because of non payment of our three months salary", demanded salaries must be paid up to date if peace must reign.

The members said the peaceful protest was organised as a last option to register their anger and nonchalant attitude of  the management.

Explaining the workers grievances, the Association Chairman, Mr. Odidi William, demanded at least payment of two months salaries, stressing that if the time given management expires they would not have any other option than to call its members to down tools.

Reacting to the issue,  the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Augustine Angba, stated that management was doing everything humanly possible to ensure that all the backlog of arrears of salaries owed are cleared.

Prof. Angba called for calm saying "we had a meeting with them on how their salaries can be paid, unfortunately the agreement that we had was reneged on and they ran to the streets to carry placards.

"This was part of the reasons why we didn't want them to go on strike, this is part of the consequences. No student paid school fees through out the strike period," the VC stated.
