Yakurr APC Endorses Otu, Odey for Second Term, Cites Transformative Governance

As political activities gain momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Yakurr chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially endorsed Governor Bassey Otu and his Deputy, Peter Odey, for a second term in office.
The endorsement ceremony, held recently at the Obol Lopon Palace Roundabout in Ugep, Yakurr Local Government Area, drew a significant crowd. Attendees included top political stakeholders from all 14 political wards, party officials, members of the State House of Assembly, local government councillors, and various state appointees.
Notably, the Commissioners for Aviation, Capt. Eno Utum Inah, and for Special Duties, Odeon Ewa, were absent from the event.
The motion for the endorsement was moved by Hon. Mercy Akpama (Yakurr II State Constituency) and seconded by Hon. Cyril Omin (Yakurr I State Constituency).
Senator Eteng Jonah Williams, representing the Central Senatorial District of Cross River State, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the critical importance of unity and unwavering support for the current administration.
He highlighted ongoing infrastructural development in Yakurr, specifically pointing to the construction of the Mkpani–Agoi Road. Senator Williams further commended Governor Otu's inclusive governance style, which he noted has led to the appointment of several Yakurr indigenes to key positions within the state government.
“This endorsement is our way of reciprocating Governor Otu’s goodwill,” Senator Williams affirmed. “I was scheduled to be in Uyo with my National Assembly colleagues to receive Governor Umo Eno into the APC, but I chose to be here to mobilize my constituents and demonstrate my total loyalty and support for the Governor and our party.”
Mr. Ibiang Gowon, the Yakurr APC Chapter Chairman, further elaborated, stating, “The people of Yakurr are firmly behind Governor Otu and Deputy Governor Odey. The APC has delivered on its promises over the past two years, and we will continue to support the party.”
Mr. Yibala Iyang, the Chairman of Yakurr Local Government Area, also described the endorsement as a clear testament to the success of the current administration's "People First" agenda.
“Yakurr people have come out in their numbers today to identify with the achievements of Governor Otu.
We are demanding continuity,” Iyang asserted. “Other administrations before his served two terms — the incumbent should not be an exception.”
