UNICAL, OPAY Sign MoU On Scholarship Deal For 20 Students

Committed to strengthening industry-academic collaboration and support student development, the University of Calabar and Opay Digital Services Limited have signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on sponsorship deal for 20 students.

The sponsorship deal for 20 University of Calabar students will cover tuition, accommodation, and other related expenses for one academic session.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Obi, reaffirmed her belief that “there is no greater investment than in people.

Prof. Obi commended Opay for constructing a Bus Stop on campus and expressed gratitude for the sponsorship, noting it as a visible sign of the company’s presence on campus.

The Vice Chancellor expressed gratitude for the MOU on the sponsorship of 20 students, restating that investing in human beings is the most valuable commitment, assuring  Opay of the University’s full support and expressed hope for more collaborations and partnerships in the future.

Earlier, the team lead, Mr. Ikponmwosa Odiase, who serves as Head of Partnerships, stated that their visit was to formalize the MOU aimed at positively impacting students’ lives.

He explained that Opay Digital Services Limited is a Nigerian mobile money and fintech platform offering a wide range of financial and on-demand services.

Mr. Odiase added that the MOU establishes the foundation for Opay to create and fund a scholarship programme for 20 University of Calabar students.

According to him, the scholarships will be awarded based on the assessment of a selection committee, focusing on merit and financial need.

The team lead said each scholarship will cover tuition, accommodation, and other related expenses for one academic session, explaining that students are the leaders of tomorrow, and empowering them is a crucial responsibility.
