Management of the University of Calabar, has awarded scholarship grants to 34 high flying students in the institution in its maiden Vice Chancellor Scholarship Award Scheme.

While presenting the certificates to the students, Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Obi said that the scholarship was a response of her investiture speech on Dec. 1 2020, where she noted in her manifesto to reposition the university in line with global best practices to a foremost ivory tower.

Obi said the scholarship lasts throughout the duration of the studies of the students provided they maintained the highest CGPA in their various department which must not be less than 4.00.

The Vice Chancellor maintained that the students will lose the scholarship grants if another student from the same department scores a high CGPA with 4; automatically the grant stops wile the student with the highest CGPA takes over to enjoy the scheme.

She enjoined the students to remain committed to their studies as they have distinguished themselves in the University so as to keep enjoying the scholarship grants.

Responding, one of the beneficiaries, Miss. Marshal Joy Ita, a student of Mass Communication, expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor for her benevolence, describing the scheme as a moral booster and encouragement to study more.

In an interview with the President, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Mr Lucky, he said the initiative was really inspiring and commendable while calling on the other Vice Chancellors to borrow a leaf from the gesture.
