The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Eradication, Dr. Betta Edu, has stated that President Bola Tinubu's poverty eradication programme is in line with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and a major focus of the administration.
Edu siad eradicating extreme poverty for all people everywhere by 2030 is a pivotal goal and the first of the 17 point 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development as set by the United Nations in 2015.
The Minister, who was a guest on one of the national televisions stations, said the emphasis of the President on poverty eradication led to the creation of the ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Eradication to drive home this goal.
She disclosed that the ministry will be looking at how far the vision has been implemented, the challenges, the setbacks, the success so far since inception in 2015 and what can be built on.
According to her, funds saved from the oil subsidy removal will also be used as the administration will be setting up a trust fund with clear protocols where not the government but the private sector would be the driver.
In her words: "the Tinubu administration will be reaching out to Nigerians in a manner that they will know that they have been reached while ensuring that the necessary insensitives and interventions gets to the supposed beneficiaries.
"It takes a determined mind, energy, innovation and political goodwill of the president, the governors, those at the local level and all critical stake holders to drive all the policies which we will be bringing on board and we must all work together to achieve this," she added.
