The battle for the soul of Rivers State All Progressives Congress (APC) has continued to gather momentum as loyalist of former Governor Nyesom Wike and Minister of FCT, are gradually taking over the mantle of leadership of the ruling party.
An indication to this emerged recently when the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Abdullahi Ganduje sacked
all Rivers State Excos and appointed caretaker committee members
According to Ganduje, the caretaker committee would supervise the conduct of a congress to choose new excos.
The caretaker committee is headed by Wike'die-hard loyalists, Chief Tony Okocha as chairman and Eric Nwibani as Secretary.
According to the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Felix Morka, the inauguration of the committee members will take place at the party secretariat today, Friday, November 24.
Morka said the caretaker committee will hold office for six months until substantive new executive members of Rivers APC are elected into office.
However, APC leaders loyal to former Governor Rotimi Amaechi and former Minister of Transport, have protested against the dissolution, describing it as dangerous politics and an attempt to push away members who have fought and sustained the party when Wike during his tenure ensured that the party was killed.
The party leaders said they are shell-shocked at Ganduje's alleged alliance with FCT to destroy APC in Rivers because anything against the people would not stand.
Reacting, the APC governorship candidate, Tonye Cole, said:" It is regrettable that President Bola Tinubu had quietly sacrificed them for the benefit of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike and his supporters.
