Group calls for state burial of ex-Senate President, Wayas

 political group, Citizens Network for Peace and Development in Nigeria, (CNPDN) has called on Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Gov. Bassey Otu to organize a state burial for the late former Senate President Joseph Wayas.

 

The group frowned at the attitude of both the federal and state government towards the late Senator, describing the delay in the burial as a national embarrassment and pleaded with Senate President Akpabio and Gov. Otu to intervene and facilitate a befitting burial for the late politician from Obanlikwu LGA, in Cross River State. 

The group National Secretary, Francis Okereke, task the Senate President to intervene and resolve on whatever happens that have delayed the burial, adding that such a leader who was number three in the country cannot be ignored like that.

"We hereby appeal to the federal and state government, particularly the President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio to look into the matter and arrange for a befitting burial of our revered former Senate President, they said."

The group expressed confidence in Senator Akpabio's uncommon transformational leadership and are optimistic that he will heed to their call and do the needful.  

Sen. Joseph Wayas is from Obanlikwu LGA in Cross River State, he represented the good people of Cross River North and was Senate President of the Second Republic government of President Shehu Shagari from Obanliku 1979 - 1983. He died on Thursday December 2, 2021 in a London hospital after a protracted illness and his corpse is yet to be brought home for burial.
