Governor Bassey Otu has appointed the Special Adviser on Housing, Prince Ekanem Ekpo, David Nsemo, former staff of THE BEAGLE NEWS, Mark Idrah and  and 16 others have been appointed as members of Cross River State Task Force on recovery of government-owned houses and other activities.

The Chairman of the Task Force is responsible for ensuring the successful recovery and management of government houses in Cross River State, promoting effective governance and optimal utilisation of public assets.

The duties of the Task Force  include identifying and investigating cases of illegal occupation or unauthorized use of government houses; verifying the ownership and status of government houses, ensuring accurate records and documentation; coordinating the eviction of illegal occupants, trespassers, or unauthorized users from government houses; recovering possession of government houses, ensuring they are vacant and secured as well as overseeing the maintenance, renovation, and allocation of recovered government houses.

Other terms of reference are collaborating with legal authorities to pursue legal action against individuals or groups resisting eviction or refusing to vacate government houses; liaising with relevant government agencies, ministries, and departments to ensure effective recovery and management of government houses; providing regular progress reports to the Governor or relevant authorities on the recovery efforts and challenges; ensuring compliance with government policies and regulations regarding property management and recovery as well as mediating conflicts and disputes related to government house recovery, seeking amicable resolutions where possible.
