Cross River Gov't Partner UNHCR On Refugees Education

The Cross River government is partnering with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees on the issue of teachers.
The Head of United Nations High Commission for Refugees, Field Office,qq Mr Mohamed Nafion, who made this disclosure during a courtesy visit on on Commissioner for Education, Sen. Stephen Odey, said the High Commission lack teachers in some of their schools and need some teachers as well as payment of WAEC fees for Refugee children of host communities and inclusion of Refugees children in state scholarship.
Naifon appealed for provision of basic infrastructures, free education and enrolment of Refugees children in public schools.
Also speaking, the Head of field office Calabar, Mrs Irene Omondi, on behalf of the body congratulated the Commissioner on his appointment and made some peculiar request.
Others on the visit include Head of Sub office Ogoja, and Mr Richard Effiong Protection Associate Calabar.
Speaking during the courtesy visit on Commissioner for Education, Sen. Stephen Odey, commended the High Commission for the visit, their infrastructural development and job done so far in their various settlements and assured them of partnership.
Odey promised to table their make their request to the Governor and possible approval especially with regard to employment of additional teachers to address the paucity of teachers in the state.
He also asked for a comprehensive data of Refugees children in Cross River State and number of schools in operation for further consideration whenever approval is given for any intervention.
He noted that the free tuition and free WAEC registration was only for Cross River indigenes as he will however, discuss with the Governor about the new development.
